The UT Leadership Board awared Texas Hillel Foundation with the
2003 Swing Out Award for "Best Service!"
Mazel Tov Tzedek
Tzedek Hillel (taken from www.tzedekhillel.org)
Tzedek Hillel seeks to pursue justice and
transform communities. Tzedek Hillel, an international public service
effort, sponsored by Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life,
is dedicated to transforming life on campus and in the community
through community partnership, advocacy/awareness, service, and
education. Framed by the Jewish imperatives of tzedakah
(righteousness), gemilut chasadim (acts of loving kindness),
and tikkun olam (repair of the world), Tzedek Hillel engages
and empower students in meaningful public service and encourages
out-of-the-box thinking when addressing social justice issues. Whether
you volunteer in a soup kitchen, tutor a child, visit the sick,
or organize others, these actions stem from our Jewish tradition.
Tzedek Hillel, launched in the fall of 1999, was established through
the support of the Nathan Cummings Foundation and Mazon (www.mazon.org):
A Jewish Response to Hunger.
Tzedek Hillel at Texas Hillel
This school year, 2003-2004, is Tzedek’s
fourth year at The University of Texas at Austin. Tzedek Hillel
has a new leadership structure this year. There are two co-chairs
serving overlapping terms as well as a board of students chairing
projects/issues. We encourage you to check out the rest of our website.
We want to thank all of the members of our
board for their hard work they put in each day to Tzedek Hillel.
The programs that this organization puts forward would not be possible
without them. We also want to thank Betsy
Goldin, the program associate at Texas Hillel, for being a great
advisor. She meets with us as often as necessary and always lends
an ear to listen to our ideas, questions, and problems.
Thanks,
Sarah
